Laura Ann Bates
Miss Laura Ann Bates was raised singing hymns in the front pew of a small inner city Lansing community church. Between potlucks and praise meetings she found herself drawn in and held by the compelling power of music as it thundered from the grand piano through the sanctuary and into her own sojourning heart. Nurtured by this love, Laura would go on to study music throughout her childhood and into college. Pursuing opera in the classroom by day, bluegrass and folk in the bars at night, hymns and choral pieces on Sunday morning, she discovered the common thread that runs through all good art ~ a sincere and humble desire to inspire the human soul. As a songstress Laura strives for this sincerity, and the melodies that come from her bear the fingerprint of her rich heritage of musical inspiration. In 2007, Laura Bates and Brandon Foote released "Jubilee", a duo record featuring original songs from each. She has also collaborated with Jen Sygit in an old-time duo "Calamity Jane", and plays piano, flute, guitar, and upright bass on many Earthwork projects. Currently Laura is moonlighting as "Tillie" in a Lansing Vaudeville Troupe "The Little Darlin's", and is working on her first solo album.
